JFS Annual Gala (December 8th)

The promise of a fun-filled “journey” to the classic tropical elegance of mid-century Havana was fully delivered at the Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service (JFS) Annual Gala and Auction on December 8, 2011. Nearly 250 guests at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton enjoyed a sumptuous cocktail reception, dinner and silent and live auctions of luxury items including jewelry and vacation packages. The dance floor pulsated for hours to the lively sounds of Soul Survivor. Larry Phillips received the Ruth and Norman Rales Humanitarian of the Year Award in a moving presentation at the event.

CLIENT PROFILE: Jerome

Jerome was in a rehabilitation center when his wife suddenly collapsed at home. She had suffered a stroke and passed away 10 days later. Jerome was discharged, attended his wife funeral and came home to a myriad of bills, no food and very limited funds. A neighbor noticed he was losing weight and looking very frail.

While visiting, the neighbor called the JFS Food Pantry Coordinator and within two hours, six bags of nonperishable groceries, fresh challah, and fresh fruit and vegetables were delivered along with several Publix gift cards to buy chicken and meat. Jerome was also referred to other JFS services to help him through his time of crisis.

Social Anxiety & Stress Reduction Support Groups Start at JFS

Responding to the times and the community's needs, Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service is starting professionally led, easily affordable weekly support groups on Wednesday evenings for those who feel the need for stress reduction, or who are uncomfortable around other people, experiencing social anxiety.

Polo Club Raises Money for JFS Cards for Kids

The Polo Club’s Community Relations Committee and fellow Polo Club members are proud to provide Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service with a contribution of more than $5,300 to support the Gift Cards for Kids program. This is the sixth year The Polo Club has been an active part of the Cards for Kids program and has collected more than $30,000.

CHALLAH - A Whole New Twist: Learn, Bake, Help the Hungry

Women of all ages and streams of Judaism from throughout the community are invited to learn hands-on all they “knead” to know about the art of baking and braiding challah. They’ll also be helping their less fortunate neighbors when the loaves they create are distributed to clients of the Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry. CHALLAH -A Whole New Twist will bring it all together in a marvelous morning at Boca Raton Synagogue on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 10:00 am.
