| CHALLAH - A Whole New Twist: Learn, Bake, Help the Hungry |
| Published Monday, January 16, 2012 7:00 am |

Women of all ages and streams of Judaism from throughout the community are invited to learn hands-on all they “knead” to know about the art of baking and braiding challah. They’ll also be helping their less fortunate neighbors through Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service (JFS). CHALLAH -A Whole New Twist will bring it all together in a marvelous morning at Boca Raton Synagogue, 7900 Montoya Circle, on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 10:00 am.
While kneading and shaping the challah dough, women will also learn the wonderful history and traditions of this special mitzvah. They’ll take home a booklet with recipes and tips.
Then, the hand-baked loaves will be brought to clients of the Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry as part of their biweekly grocery deliveries. Through the Food Pantry, JFS regularly delivers to nearly 550 residents of the Boca Raton and Delray Beach areas.
“JFS is thrilled to be able to partner with Boca Raton Synagogue for this unique event,” said Danielle N. Hartman, JFS President and CEO. “Together, we will educate women in our community about the mitzvah of baking challah while at the same time helping our neighbors in need.”
"There is such beauty behind the mitzvah of challah-making that we wanted to share with our wider community,” said Gila Stern, Co-president of Boca Raton Synagogue Sisterhood. “Being able to donate the challah to people in need makes this event that much more special. The BRS Sisterhood is proud to team up with Ruth Rales JFS and their Foster Family Kosher Food Pantry"
The cost for the event is $15 per person, and sponsorship opportunities are available. Dietary laws will be observed. To RSVP or for more information, visit www.rrjfs.org/challah, call 561-852-3334 or email bethl@rrjfs.org.
